Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in the 2017 season.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the sole team never to appear in a championship series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
