“It was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the signal was completely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the incorrect finger,” he noted. “It was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”
Historical Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This incident isn’t the initial instance an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Previous cases involve:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
