Former British Serviceman Accused of Killing Kenya Woman Shows Up in Courtroom

A suspect has shown up before a judge as extradition proceedings started in the investigation of Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan national, a female from Kenya who was murdered near a British army base in 2012.

Purkiss, 38 years old, who is originally from Greater Manchester, was presented at the Westminster court on Friday, and told the court he planned to fight the deportation. It is understood that he was detained on the evening of Thursday.

A warrant for arrest for the defendant was issued by a court in Nairobi in September. Legal prosecutors stated before the Kenyan court that the individual had been accused of a single count, of killing, and that the Kenyan authorities would pursue his extradition to answer to accusations.

He served formerly as a medical attendant with the Lancaster Regiment, the infantry regiment for the English northwest, including on missions to Afghanistan.

Agnes Wanjiru, twenty-one, a beautician who had a infant daughter, disappeared after a evening out, and her body was discovered two months later in the area of the accommodation where she had last been seen.

No one had earlier been arrested or accused in connection to her demise. Purkiss’s arrest was the result of a new police inquiry, which followed a report in 2021 by a Sunday newspaper, in which the media outlet approached several serving and ex-military personnel in the military group.

The probe has been spearheaded by detectives in Kenya, which, under a mutual defense pact, retains jurisdiction in the legal case.
