Russian President Vladimir Putin Vows Continuous Oil Shipments to the Indian Nation in Defiance of Washington Sanctions
During a clear statement to the West, Leader Vladimir Putin informed PM Narendra Modi that Russia stands ready to guarantee “uninterrupted” deliveries of energy resources to India. This declaration came as the two leaders met in the Indian capital and asserted their relationship were “resilient to outside influence.”
A Statement Aimed at the West
The statement, delivered Friday, was widely seen to be a pointed rebuke at the United States and its allies, which have repeatedly attempted to compel New Delhi into reducing its longstanding links with Moscow. This comes follows earlier American measures, notably additional trade penalties targeting New Delhi because of its acquisition of discounted Russian crude.
“Moscow remains a reliable source of fuel and anything needed for the advancement of India’s economy,” the Russian president remarked. “Russia is prepared to continue ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of resources for the rapidly growing Indian economy.”
Prime Minister Modi, though he did not referencing crude directly, echoed the sentiment by noting that “energy security has been a key and vital foundation of the Indo-Russian partnership.”
Challenging Washington's Stance
Before the talks, via a television interview, Putin had criticized Washington's stance over India's oil imports. The president questioned, “If the US has the right to buy our uranium, why shouldn’t India claim the identical right?”
This trip was his initial visit to India after the start of the situation in Ukraine, and both sides engaged in a clear show to demonstrate that the personal rapport between the heads of state was undisturbed.
A Personal Welcome
In a rare gesture, Prime Minister Modi welcomed directly Putin right off the plane. Both leaders shared a warm hug as longtime companions before enjoying a one-on-one meal the night before the summit.
Modi later described India's relationship with Russia as “a beacon” and noted it was “based on shared respect and profound confidence.”
Reaffirming Defence and Economic Ties
The bilateral summit yielded a number of key agreements regarding defence and economic cooperation. One significant result was the finalization of an economic cooperation programme that runs to 2030, which aims to double mutual trade to one hundred billion dollars each year by the end of the decade.
The leaders also pledged to reshape their military partnership. Even as Russia continues to be India's biggest exporter of arms, the volume has diminished over the past decade as India works to diversify its sources.
The official release emphasized cooperation in the collaborative manufacturing of advanced weapons platforms, although direct mention of purchases such as the fifth-generation aircraft were not made.
Ultimately, both nations affirmed that amid the “present intricate, difficult, and unpredictable international environment, their relationship stay strong to foreign influence.”
