The Manager's Stance on Celtic

The Ipswich boss described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "deeply involved" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were relegated back to the second division and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been such discussions," the London-born ex- Irish young player said when asked about being on the candidate list.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any portion of my concentration is currently.

"I possess a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a crucial phase of the campaign. Everything external hasn't reached my awareness."

Background and Agreement Details

Reports indicate that the manager would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his boyhood allegiances.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about these. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he replied. "I don't know what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Town's coach forever. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I will consistently give maximum effort as while I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for Celtic on loan from Newcastle United in 2005, but the former Welsh forward is minded to finish the current global tournament qualification, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their World Cup group behind leaders Belgium and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would secure their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but assured of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League performance, even if they not end up their group second place.

Given his current stance, the Wales manager, whose contract concludes after the European Championship, would be unavailable until following the qualifying matches at the minimum.
